Medic, it's an MMO. What you described IS an MMO. It's like being mad that Halo is just like Doom is just like Half Life. It's a genre and they are going to have the same elements. Sounds like you may be done with MMO's in general.

Inde - some people would be VERY displeased that you compare Doom to Half Life. You do know that one is a mindless shooter, and the other is an FPS with a really great storyline? It's more of a storyline with FPS game build in top of it.
Medic: What grind? 1-23 there are NO problems, 23-24 there are slight problems if you missed some of the quests, 25-28 you've got instance where you get at least 1/2 exp needed for next level if you kill all elite monsters and the bosses. Also quests give hundreds of thousands of experience. After 29 you have the first level you actually have to grind all the way, but you can do it on Elite monsters in group, so it will be a lot easier than solo grinding normal monsters. Then you have 30-35 instance, then 35-45, 45+ instances, PvP, elite mobs, a lot of quests and MISSIONS...
Aion is a lot, A LOT less grindy than vanilla WoW, Ragnarok Online, Lineage 2, Cabal Online, RF Online, FF Online or Everquest.
Also lol about the "no storyline". Except that in MMOs there are very rarely any actual storylines...
It starts out with you having a strange dream and an amnesia, then you train yourself, find out about a Revolution, a plan to defeat Daevas using the Balaur and summoning them to our "realm" with portals. Then after discovering your destiny (class change, Ascension) you partake in missions that follow revolutionaries, you uncover their secrets, fight with their leaders, then you find that the Krall want to ally with the Balaur, too.
Most of the storyline revolves about the clashes between the three races. It's especially visible in Abyss, where doing the same mission on both sides (rescuing prisoners) you might and will meet players from other races and of course try to prevent them from freeing captives.
But, that's just for starters.

DDO? No grind? I think that the main reason I stopped playing DDO is because my Bard had to grind one or two quests over and over because I couldn't find missions I could do by myself.
Also, GW requires a lot of grind if you want to play its main feature - PvP, that is HA or GvG... Because how do you call it when you are skilled, but must get some artificial "shower of your merit"? Other than grind.

In DDO I reached max level in under 3 weeks. it is not a solo game, but the multiplayer aspect of it is far far more enjoyable then GW is. Also, you can now play higher level quests solo with Hirelings on your own if you dont want to play with others, but i actually enjoy playing in groups in DDO, as opposed to GW.
In GW, PVP isnt a grind, it is a learning curve. You can also pay to unlock all of the skills so theres no grind involved there.
Learning to play =/= grind. Having to hack through countless enemies over and over just to level up = grind.
Also, fees = bad.

Oh, I'm sorry, I forgot every MMO now tries to please everyone under 12 by throwing loot left and right and giving you max level in 5 days.
My bad.

Or allow for the creation of max-level PvP characters... (yes I still think this is one epic oversight)

You're hilarious, you know.
"Aion is less grindy than WoW!"
-Actually, it isn't!
"Well, less grind is for twelve year olds!"
-/commence audible laughter
Admit it, your golden game has more grind than the competition, and you enjoy it anyway. Don't try to repeatedly spread misinformation to try and hide the truth. You enjoy grind; that's fine, nobody is going to think any lesser of you because of it.

Well, usually 12 year old kids want everything handed out to them. What, you expect them to actually work for their gear?
No, I do not like grind. At least, not in L2 or Ragnarok Online amounts, where 95% of the max experience comes from mob killing. But I do enjoy grind when it's fun. I've played Diablo 2 for a LONG time, and you must be mad not to like killing monsters over and over if you like the game itself.
Sure, I know some adults want things done fast. But if so, then they shouldn't really play MMOs. Or enjoy their World of Warcraft, walking you by hand to level 80.

So, which is it you are arguing in favor for, exactly? More or less grind? You don't hesitate to state Aion has less grind than WoW (and not just vanilla either; at this point, it could be John's Super MMO Of Swordguns, for all it's worth), but when it turns out WoW in fact has less grind than Aion, you turn around and say having less grind is for children.
You sound very fanboyish right now.

Couldn't get into it.
Friend had a trial/beta/whatever account, so I gave it a shot. Made my man, had some good fun making him - then looked at my abilities and archetype in general and lost complete interest.
Feels like a standard MMO in a different skin, and sadly that doesn't cut it for me anymore.

I said that vanilla WoW had more grind. Now it most likely has less grind.
Why are you however so focused on WoW? Why don't you defend L2, RO or other grindy games? ;d Seems to me like I offended your game's honor.
I'm not saying less grind is for children, but it IS for lazy people. And most of the children are lazy. That's why WoW caters to them, throwing loot left and right. It's easy noticed on aionsource.com boards, where people cry that after three weeks they don't have full blue or yellow gear.
I'm also not saying that either less grind or more grind is better. Can't we have something between Lineage 2 and WoW, where you neither have to work a year to get a semi-good character nor where you get loot and a max character in less than a month?

The grind is like 2 moons/ just to name 1..if you like grind then this is the game for you.
ok for guys who play 6/8 hrs a day its def not for a casual player.
I made a toon of each profession and thought I would get into th e game but, its just not for me (personal opinion) .
I see guys are sying less grind than wow .srry to dissapoint but the WOW guys are complaining thats its more grind on open chat in game.
The game is good wont dispute that its just unfortunate thats its a KR game where its tolorated but not in the west.(grind)
I cancelled my sub because it does not suit my time scale to play it
mabe it will change in 20 days when they see how many will not renew afer the 30 day free period

Maybe you just can't see the quests.
People get to 24 without having to grind and have a lot of quests left. If making quests (and not just "Kill XXX mobs" or "collect XXX of YYY item") is grinding, then any game counts as a grind.

Thus making anything and everything you have ever said about WoW on GWG entirely irrelevant. We've been over this before. This is 2009, not 2004. The present is what matters, so please stop comparing the present state of an MMO to the previous state of another.

The only honor I am defending is that of truth. No matter the subject, misinformation is something that should not be permitted to spread, for the good of readers everywhere. I focus on WoW because I, unlike you, don't talk about games I haven't played for ages. I don't know enough about the current state of L2 or RO, and thus I don't pretend I do.

We can talk about L2 vs. WoW when people who have played both games extensively sometime in the past two months is around to talk about the subject in an intelligent, informed manner. As I said before, I haven't played L2 for years, so I can't talk about it; and as we have established many times, you haven't played WoW enough at any point to know what the game truly offers, and thus shouldn't be talking about it.

You say "we can talk about L2 vs WoW when people who have palyed both games extensively"...
How long did you play Aion to assume it's full of grind?

Read further, how I compared Aion. To the standard Korean MMOs and vanilla WoW.
It's still more grindy than today's WoW. Which they made less grindy to cater to the masses.
Still, if someone plays Aion, he's not here not for PvE or leveling. But for PvP. So the game actually starts at 40-45, when you focus on PvP and doing harder, non-tank and spank instances.

I didn't feel the need to quote all the game names, as they weren't the point. What matters was the first few words. I'll cut out even more excess without harming the meaning.

Actually, no. I said that Aion has less grind than those games, but I was my response about WoW, where they lowered the grind to help little kids get successful.
I still haven't heard how long did you play Aion to qualify it as a grind game, though.
